4th Grade Book Tasting

To kick off our historical fiction reading unit, Chef Chascin and I transformed my classroom into a cafe where students could "taste" 7 different books and discuss which ones they would like to read in their book clubs. Each time they rotated to a new table they would take notes on their menus. To add to the ambiance of the students' dining experience, there was a virtual fire place and relaxing classical music playing in the background. The kids had great conversations about the books and added witty comments such as "This book needs some more salt!" meaning it lacked action. Both the chefs and the diners had a delightful morning devouring books.
