K-1 Melting Ice

Daniel did a great job helping the class with their morning Logic Puzzle. He was able to explain in detail how to record the first clue on the grid which narrowed down their possible choices.
We kicked off our Artic Unit by doing a Science Experiment. Do you know how long it takes an ice cube to melt at room temperature? The class predictions ranged from 1-10 minutes but we were surprised at how much longer it took...try this simple science observation activity at home during dinner!

Students were curious about how much water was in the bag after the ice cube melted so we measured it using a graduated cylinder. I loved how this simple experiment inspired so many student led questions! We will be conducting several extension experiments in the upcoming weeks based on their questions.
We welcomed another brilliant 1st grader to our group today!
