K-1 Bat Art

We welcomed 2 new Kindergarten friends to our classroom today!
Unit Study-Bats
We got a chance to exercise our creativity and listening skills by creating bat portraits. This simple painting technique is called "watercolor-resist" because first the students use crayons to color their drawings and then they use water colors to paint the background. The water "resists" the wax on the paper so the paint only adheres to the paper that is not colored. Next week we will add poetry to our artwork.

7 Habits - Self Control
We revisited habit 1 which is "Be Proactive - You're in charge of yourself". We had a fun bubble activity where the students had to practice self-control. We then started reading The Way I Feel and discussed how to control some of our feelings like frustration and disappointment. We will continue to discuss controlling other feelings next week.

Sketch-Noting
We practiced this new reading comprehension skill during our book of the month read aloud. Next week I will post some examples of the students' notes.

Think Fun!
This is the students' favorite time of the day because they get to choose an educational game or activity to play with their classmates. Mousetrap and Rush Hour were 2 popular games chosen today. Both of these games require serious critical thinking skills!
