K-1 music makers

Students worked cooperatively to measure each other's height using a yard stick. We charted everyone's results and analyzed the data. Then we discussed which measurements were not reasonable and why. This simple activity helped students with measurement, critical thinking, logic, and problem solving! We used this height information to determine who got to pick their musical instrument materials first.

7 Habits- How do you get all the rocks and sand to fit into this small glass??? You have to put the big rocks in first then pour the sand over it. The rocks represented the "big responsibilities" in life that have to be taken care of first. The sand represented the other activities that we can fit into our schedules after finish the big responsibilities.

STEM
We continued our Sound of Science lesson by making musical instruments out of recycled materials. The kids had a blast creating their instruments! We also learned that sometimes modifications are needed to make a project work correctly.

A Star Wars Light Saber was the inspiration for this shaker instrument!
